FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Is Reiki associated with any religion?

No, Reiki is not associated with any religion, whatsoever. It is a spiritually guided divine life force energy. It is a scientific, well documented method of asking this divine power to assist a person, event or a situation.

  • Do I need to switch to a vegetarian or no-smoking / no-drinking mode for learning Reiki?

Reiki and Reiki practitioners will never and should never enforce any change in personal, social, cultural or religious preferences of any person. Reiki, being a spiritually guided divine life force energy will always bring in positive changes in the practioner / student which it deems best for him / her. Although it may sound irrational to a few, continuance of smoking, drinking or staying a non-vegetarian may be in a person's best interest at a given time and place. If it is not, Reiki will motivate the change from within. Please do trust its divine power. As you go on practicing Reiki yourself, you may some day quit smoking and/or drinking if that is best for you.

  • Can Reiki energy be used to hurt anyone?

Reiki, being a divine power, never works to hurt anyone in anyway. It has the ability to produce only good and positive results. Trying to hurt anyone will never work.

  • Does Reiki healing has any side effects?

Again, Reiki being a divine power, has no side effects at all.

  • What should I ask for from a Reiki healing session?

You should try to be more general than asking anything specific. For example...ask for prosperity rather than a million bucks. Being too specific can conflict with the highest and best outcome possible for the Reiki energy recipient. It may also conflict someone else’s free will, in which case you may not get the best possible outcome. Try to ask for generalized things like -- financial security, a loving relationship, good health, happiness, peace and prosperity, etc. You should direct Reiki to the highest good. It is incapable of less.

  • Will I be able to see or feel the positive effects of Reiki healing energy?

Yes, definitely. I would advise you to trust this power of Reiki. It always works in a positive way. The more you trust it, the more it works.

  • How soon will I get results from Reiki?

Reiki energy starts helping you instantly in the cause for which it is channeled. The time required for getting visible tangible results may vary due to different levels of negativities, energy blockages that it is working against for the good cause.

Also after sending Reiki hands-on or distance healing energy, reports come in that the client often feels it as a wave of peace when he/she most needs it. Reiki energy gets collected as a reserve and is used when needed for the best possible outcome.

  • How long will the results last?

Reiki energy often produces positive life altering changes in how one thinks and approaches their life. The recipient and the higher divine source determine how the Reiki healing energy is best utilized. The results often last forever.

  • Can Reiki be given to pets?
Yes, Reiki can be given to pets. It can be given to any animals, objects, vehicles, events, situations, etc. The applications are infinite and results definitely positive in the long term.
  • What is Karuna and Tera Mai Reiki and how is it different from Usui Reiki? Which is more powerful? Which one should I learn?

The most widely known system of Reiki is known as the Usui system of Reiki. It is named after Dr. Mikao Usui, the gentleman who originated the system approximately a century ago. It is from this system of Reiki that practically all other systems have originated. The Usui system of Reiki is also referred by many as the traditional system. When someone advertises that they are a Reiki Master or a Reiki practitioner they are generally referring to this system of Reiki unless otherwise specified (myself included). Two of the other widely advertised "contemporary" systems of Reiki are Karuna Reiki and Tera-Mai Reiki.

The Karuna and Tera-Mai systems of Reiki are just two of many new systems of Reiki that have emerged over the past decade. It can often be confusing to people new to Reiki to see the number of different systems of Reiki and reading the different claims that each of these systems make. While certain beliefs and practice's change from system to system, the primary difference between the different systems is going to be the frequency of the energy that is channeled. This change in frequency causes the energy to have a different feel to it, while also causing different systems to target slightly different aspects of ourselves. While all systems of Reiki work on the totality of who we are, certain systems will inevitably work better on certain areas than others due to the frequency at which they operate.

The majority of these systems are wonderful examples of the nature by which Reiki works in the life of the practitioner. The Reiki energy always works toward the highest good of the person, be that the client or practitioner. This means that the Reiki energy will adapt to fit what is in that person's highest good. It is this adaptation of the energy that has brought about the various systems in use today.

Most practitioners, who seriously work with the energy for any length of time, begin to make it their own on self-realizing new knacks, techniques and/or symbols which occur to them as a result of intense practice. They add a bit of themselves to what they do and find what works best for them. This often includes new techniques, symbols, and sometimes even an altering of the attunement process. Often the practitioner decides to give the system of Reiki he or she teaches a name to differentiate it from the traditional system of Reiki and the other systems being taught. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, in fact, I believe this is doing a service to those interested in learning Reiki because they will know that what the practitioner is teaching is not the traditional system. Unfortunately, what often happens is that the practitioner's ego begins convincing him or her that their system is superior to all others, their judgement becomes clouded, and they stop working from a place of love and begin being driven by ego. I have even heard of Reiki Masters / Grandmasters going to the extent of taking oaths from the students / learners that they will not learn or use the orginal Usui system of Reiki !

It is important for us to realize that these systems are gifts from the Higher Power and should be treated accordingly. In trying to control these gifts, in essence, we are trying to control the Divine Higher Power. The extra symbols occured to the first Grandmasters of these new systems of Reiki were given to them by this Higher Power to eliminate their own specific personal issues. Their usefulness to others is questionable. But their newly developed ego probably obstructed them from rationally evaluating this in detail before announcing huge claims. In fact, some of my own students have reported about Reiki gifting them specific symbols for eliminating their specific personal issues. These symbols are targetted at their own issues and may not be made generally applicable to everyone. It is important for such special people to realize the same.

I hope this information has helped to clear up some of the confusion about the numerous systems of Reiki currently being taught.
  • How should I select the right Reiki Master / Grandmaster for learning Reiki?
Search as much as you like but trust your intuition while choosing your teacher. As you are going to learn channelizing a spiritually guided divine life force energy, you will feel attracted towards the teacher who is right for you. Your frequencies will match with those of your right teacher. Don't use your head but follow your heart and intuition.
